The Dandy Warhols :: The Roxy

May 11, 2014

The Dandy Warhols played a nostalgia-driven show at the Roxy performing to a crowd of new and veteran fans. The Dandys played a handful of songs from their massive catalog. Standing several feet from the front of the stage in a straight line, the band was swarmed with spotlights and vibey colours that highlighted their post-grunge sensibility. Singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor’s smarm was charming as he battled with a shocking microphone. For a band who seemed to struggle so internally and externally with the concept of selling out, there was certainly something great about selling out the Roxy – an alt-rock atmosphere of provocation and droney observationalism. The beautiful wash of synth during fan/radio fave “Godless” was ironically, somewhat of a religious experience for long-time fans and although The Dandy Warhols did not grace us with other hits like “Bohemian Like You” or “Heroin Is So Passe,” we were still quite satisfied with their self-indulgence. “But all I wanna do is get off, And feel it, feel it, feel it, babe.” – You and us both.
