Earlier this month I went downtown to the Blue Whale bar to see my friend (and awesome guitar teacher) perform in his jazz outfit: The Matt Yeakley Group.  The band is comprised of Matt Politano on Piano, Zane Musa on Sax, Cooper Appelt on Bass, Aaron McLendon on Drums, and obviously, Matt Yeakley on Guitar.  The guys have been playing together since the fall …and what a coincidence… they play every Monday at the Falls in downtown, Los Angeles.  Getting the chance to really dig deep into their grooves, The Matt Yeakley Group brought in a crowd of friends and jazz enthusiasts who listened quietly but excitedly during their 2 hour set.  I can’t say I know enough about jazz to really describe the gig, but as someone who doesn’t regularly listen to jazz, or think to, I was extremely impressed and thoroughly entertained.  It was so satisfying to see a group of remarkable young musicians who were so proficient at their instruments and who have joined together to perform intricate busy pieces with unhinged solos. And I could go on for hours about how devastatingly good-looking Matt Yeakley is… but I’ll save it.
